3.15.2008 : : greetings once again from seconds before hq. we're looking forward to what promises to be another fun-filled show at the 7th street entry on friday, march 21 with our fellow bwr teammates all the way rider, attention, and the kickback. come on out early (we're playing first, natch) and stay all night. the new album is coming along nicely and now has a name - change is the only constant. we're wrapping up the mix on the final song this week. there are a whole cast of characters who have helped us so far and we want to point out the guilty parties - bill collins tracked all the instruments at three different studios, matt kirkwold produced the vocal tracking and performed amazing backing vocals and keyboard work, and james "fluff" harley has created miraculous mixes that pound our senses into oblivion. thanks amigos! we'll soon be handing off the final mixes to our friends dave young and ian allison of down and above for mastering. we're still a little early to have a solid release date, but we're getting closer every day. change is the only constant tracklisting: 1. next in line 2. keep it on 3. character assassin 4. red tape 5. the flames 6. of little faith 7. failed states 8. signal down 9. heartbreaker (full band version) 10. calling home 2.11.2008 : : a couple of big shows coming up later this month. we are happy to be part of the celebration of the new cd from our good friends down and above. that show will be held at the fine line on friday, feb 22 and will also feature dropping daylight and attention. after that we're playing with boston's bang camaro as they tear through minneapolis on their us tour. bang camaro are literally one of the biggest bands in rock with a whopping 20 members in the band. that show is going to be a blast - be there at the 7th street entry on wednesday, feb 27 for the rock insanity. vocal tracking and initial mixing for the new album are well under way. we'll have an album title and tracklisting to share soon, so stay tuned. 1.6.2008 : : happy new year from seconds before hq. progress continues on the new album - we wrapped up instrumental recording in november with bill collins. we are now kicking into high gear with vocals and mix by matt and james at world record productions, and are shooting to have everything in the can by the end of the month, aside from mastering and manufacturing. looks like the stars are aligning for a summer 2008 release at this point. we're planning to line up more shows this winter/spring as well. next one up is sunday jan 27 at the triple rock social club with brothers quetico and fellow bwr miscreants new holland. 11.17.2007 : : things are coming along nicely on the new record. we've knocked out the lion's share of guitar tracking this past weekend, with only some miscellaneous acoustic balladry and ancillary wankery remaining to be picked up in the next few weeks. for all you guitar/studio nerds out there, we used a cable splitter to track multiple amplifiers with each single performance. this allowed us to take very different but complimentary amplifier sounds and literally stack them up to make for really amazing tones, all on the same take. most everything was done with chris' mesa rig and a sweet fender combo (thanks bill!) and we are feeling like these are some of the best guitar sounds we've ever had. after we wrap up with the final guitar "goodie sessions", we hand the whole thing off to brian and his dulcet pipes. 9.1.2007 : : so we are just a little over a month away from heading back to the studio to start work on the new album. we are really excited about it, as always it's a good feeling to head into a recording session with a batch of new music. right before we head into studio hibernation we've got one more show lined up (saturday september 29), the second of what we hope to be an ongoing series of blue worm records nights at the hexagon bar in minneapolis. the hex is a great venue and the lineup is all killer, no filler, with our boyos all the way rider, in the morning, and the scarlet escape. we're going to perform most (if not all) of the new album for you so definitely get there early and stay late. 8.12.2007 : : greetings once again from seconds before hq. we are hard at work wrapping up the writing process for our second full length album. we'll be working with bill collins again and jumping back and forth from a few different twin cities studios starting in october. we are really looking forward to this record as we are quite keen on the new material. we're eyeing an early 2008 release - stay tuned this fall and winter for studio updates. we'll try to fit in a few live appearances in as well in the meantime. in other news, our latest release "galvanic" is now available at itunes - or if you prefer good old fashioned compact disc format, cdbaby.com can fix you up. 6.10.2007 : : the new galvanic ep is available now through cdbaby.com and will soon be showing up on major digital download services such as itunes and emusic. if you live in the minneapolis/st. paul area, you can also find the ep in all cheapo and down in the valley stores. we had a great time playing the "rock cancer out" benefit show last week with orange blank, all the way rider and casanatra. definitely a great cause and a great night of rock. 4.21.2007 : : we're happy to announce that seconds before has joined the roster of blue worm records. over the years we've played many shows with and befriended other bands on blue worm, past and present. we are honored to join a roster that includes some of the best bands in flyover country, including all the way rider, casanatra, kingfield, and new holland. our long delayed ep "galvanic" will be our first release on bwr and as mentioned elsewhere on this page will be available on compact disc as well as digital from all your favorite online music stores. we are looking forward to digging out from winter hibernation with a batch of new songs, a new record, and more shows this spring and summer. 3.19.2007 : : stop on over to our myspace page to check out a track from the upcoming ep. "datakiller" is now online for your listening pleasure. we're in the final stages of prepping online distribution for the record and will also manufacture compact disc editions as well which will likely be found exclusively at shows and a handful of twin cities record stores. after last year's experiment with releasing "echoes and errors" as an online exclusive, it's obvious to us that a lot of you like purchasing music online (many thanks to all of you who have purchased our stuff online). there were still a few folks telling us that they wished we would have manufactured discs. for us it's simply a matter of economics - it's expensive to manufacture discs, and when more and more people are forgoing the cd buying habit in favor of online, it's hard to justify a run of cds as large as what we produced for the "further destinations" full length. but we want to be able to provide a physical disc this time around for those who prefer their music that way, so we're going to make sure to have them this time around. in other news, we've been in heads-down writing mode for the last few months and are building up a nice batch of new tunes that we're excited about showing off. we'll be setting up new shows in the spring and will likely be bringing along some of the new tunes for your perusal. 2.19.2007 : : brian swoons...
in other news, brian has been busy with many solo acoustic shows which have featured all-new original compositions, as well as some surprising reworkings of seconds before standards. check out our show listings for details on brian's upcoming solo schedule. 1.07.2007 : : all of us here at seconds before hq wish you and yours a happy 2007. we got things started off with a bang last evening where brian experienced a wardrobe malfunction just prior to the start of our set in mankato (simply a broken belt, but you can imagine the possibilities). he managed to get through the set just fine, but later experienced a completely gravity-powered depantsing as he was carrying guitars back into hq. it's these little moments that make life worthwhile. in other news, we've been slowly chipping away at this ep for what seems like a geological age, but it's no lie when we say that it really is nearly done and we'll hope to have some new audio online soon for you to check out. details as to a release date and format are forthcoming as well. 10.27.2006 : : check out brian's americana version of "therapy", just posted at his myspace page (myspace.com/brianlarsonmusic). it's a pretty major departure from the original version on our further destinations album from 2003, but we think it's pretty sweet. we got a chance to perform this version of the song live along with a handful of tunes from our current rock set in an acoustic performance at acadia theater in minneapolis last weekend. we were there supporting our good friend laura harley for her cd release show - it was a blast, and although it was our first live all-acoustic performance, it probably won't be our last. rest assured we'll have plenty of new rock shows coming up as well to satisfy your inner viking. in other news, the new ep is almost done. we literally have a couple hours left of final mix cleanup work and we'll be ready to unleash 4 new songs upon ye. 8.27.2006 : : chris in the studio
6.13.2006 : : the new ep "echoes and errors" is now available on iTunes, as well other online services including Napster and Emusic. check it out now for a dose of summer rock for the sunny days ahead. the funny thing for us is that we're sitting on a growing batch of new songs, so as we've mentioned before, we're embarking on new recordings within the next month to bring forth another set of mighty anthems. don't miss the show this june 30 at the fine line - we'll be showing off brand new tuneage and should have new t-shirt designs in stock as well. it's going to be a great night of music from start to finish and we hope to see your sun-soaked faces there. 5.13.2006 : : we've got a last minute show addition for next week with our pals all the way rider and new local hotness the rockford mules. best of all, it's a benefit for hurricane katrina relief efforts. check the show listings for more details. the new ep "echoes and errors" is available at napster right now and should be online at iTunes any day now. we're in the early stages of planning the next recordings of brand new material with mike on drums, stay tuned. finally, in somewhat related news, mike and carl are featured in the current issue of skyscaper magazine regarding their tour of duty in their first band together, threadbare. check it out on newsstands everywhere. 3.31.2006 : : cabooze photo corey stern
3.10.2006 : : spring fever is definitely setting in at seconds before hq, and we are ready to celebrate the change of seasons with some fun filled shows at the end of the month. we've been in fairly heavy songwriting mode recently and have been performing a new tune called "five words" at some of our recent shows which has the distinction of being the first of many new songs we've come up with since mike joined the band. we are also looking forward to the release of the new ep "echoes and errors" at all your favorite online music distributors such as itunes, napster, etc. we'll have a release date to announce soon, but the time is most certainly drawing near. 1.12.2006 : : we're looking forward to our first show with new drummer mike, coming up in two weeks at the 7th street entry. we're especially fond of the venue, but more importantly, are thrilled to be sharing the bill with kansas city's finest, the life and times, as well as our local friends all the way rider. the life and times features allen epley, former vocalist of shiner, and as many of you know, we're longtime shiner fans here atseconds before hq. the life and times carries on the proud tradition of really smart, unconventional rock, and we highly encourage you to check them out. all the way rider features ex-align vocalist jer jessen, as well as former members of dayfeed, vulvox, and one second silence. a few of us were lucky enough to catch their debut show last month and we can honestly say that they are one of the best new bands we've heard in ages. come on out and rock with us. 1.1.2006 : : hello and happy new year from seconds before hq. we've posted two new tracks from our upcoming ep up at our myspace page. we're thinking ofgetting all high tech and releasing the new record as an online exclusive and working out some of those details right now. the ep is basically a collection of odds and ends compiled over various recording sessions in 2005. the artwork and title (currently referred to as "operation scorpion") are all subject to change but we wanted to at least give you a small taste. in other words, we're having fun writing new material and preparing for shows in 2006. we'll have the first of many dates posted later this week. | friday, march 21 at 7th street entry all the way rider (cd release), the kickback (Vermillion, SD), attention, seconds before 21+, $6, 8pm saturday, april 26 at the rock nightclub model 43 (cd release), sunshine bahavior and the soviet machines 18+/21 to drink, $6, $8 brian's solo shows » booking: booking@secondsbefore.com info: info@secondsbefore.com come be our friend at: Seconds Before's full length cd "further destinations" for sale online at amazon.com.
